Your Security Is Our Goal
Customer Security Notice on CVE-2014-0160 / Heartbleed
Posted on April 09, 2014 1:09pm CDT
The security of our users' information is a top priority. The security team at Blacklight.com has been working to assess the impact for our customers in the wake of April 7th’s disclosure of CVE-2014-0160, known colloquially as Heartbleed. We have assessed the vulnerability in OpenSSL’s handling of heartbeat packets and conducted a comprehensive security review.
After our internal review of site wide activity, there is no evidence that any Blacklight.com users were ever compromised and other related services appear to be unaffected at this time. The server does not support the TLS renegotiation extension.
The following describes the security measures we take to protect your information on the Internet.
|Our Site uses Secure Sockets Layering (SSL3.0) to encrypt your personal credit information, including your credit card number, before it travels over the Internet. SSL technology is the industry standard for secure online transactions. Because we use SSL, placing an order online at our website is just as safe as giving your credit card number over the phone.|
|Digicert EV SSL Digital Certificate|
Blacklight.com is secured using a Digicert digital certificate. This ensures that all information you send to us via the world wide web will be encrypted. Please click on the Secured By Digicert Seal, to the right, which demonstrates our commitment to your security.
By clicking on the Secured By Digicert Seal anywhere on the Site, visitors will get real-time confirmation of the validity of the certificate. The Secured By Digicert Seal pop-up window will verify the details of the business behind the certificate including Organization name, Domain name, Country, Status of the certificate, Verification and expiry dates of the certificate.
The Secured By Digicert Seal is your visible, real-time assurance of security and trust. Please take a moment to visit Digicert a leading global Certification Authority.
Encryption is a technology that allows secure transmittal of information along the Internet by encoding the transmitted data using a mathematical formula that scrambles it. Without a corresponding "decoder," the transmission would look like nonsense text and would be unusable. It can be used with many applications, including electronic commerce (sending credit card numbers for orders or transmitting account information), email messages and sensitive documents.
SSL applies encryption between two communicating computer systems, such as your PC and our corporate Internet server. When your data is transmitted over the Internet, it is encrypted or "scrambled" at the sending end and then decrypted or "unscrambled" at the receiving end. We use 128-bit encryption, the highest level generally available today.
Verify EV SSL
The way that SSL is implemented is via a digital certificate. Digital certificates guarantee the security of the connection between the browser and the server.
What does EV look like in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari? The browser address bar will turn green when a user visits our site, showing that Blacklight.com has been verified as authentic and secure.
Check your software manual or contact your browser software provider for product specifications.
Looking at the Document Info will also tell you exactly who, what, and when information is being encrypted.
In short, SSL is currently the best way to encrypt YOUR personal information and keep it protected.
